REVIVAL - The Aimee Semple McPherson Story
What audience members are saying...
"I cried throughout the entire thing!"
"When the song and dance started, I was hit with a wave of emotion that overcame my whole being."
About the Show
"Revival" is the inspiring retelling of the life story and testimony of Aimee Semple McPherson, a passionate Canadian missionary and powerful Christian evangelist of the 1920's and 30's who led a great spiritual revival in the United States and creatively and fearlessly founded the International Foursquare Church in Los Angeles, California in 1923 with the building of the Angelus Temple.
The show is comprised of compelling live audio recordings of McPherson's teachings and experiences as, in her own voice, she recounts her life story with charisma and humor. Mixed with historic photographs, video recordings, and live dances that serve as snapshots into her life and ministry, Aimee Semple McPherson's testimony comes alive in a way that is guaranteed to inspire and encourage audience members into their own personal revival.
The world premiere of the show debuted privately on September 23, 2021, and the full-stage reproduction of the show is coming to Salem by mid-January, 2022. It will be complete with additional dances, enhanced audio-visual additions, and a more developed storyline creating a fuller and more dynamic experience for the audience. Check back by early December for ticket information!

The concept for "Revival" was first conceived by Christine Kulonis, a native Oregonian and fourth-generation Four Square Member who lives and works as a nurse in Corvallis, Oregon. For the past couple of years, Kulonis has informally coordinated what she calls "Back Porch Reunions" for graduates of Life Bible College (now Life Pacific University), the university affiliated with the preparation of Four Square ministers that McPherson unintentionally founded in 1923 alongside the Angelus Temple. A Life Bible College graduate herself, Kulonis recounts that upon seeing "Aimee photographs and memorabilia" at the 2019 Reunion, the alumni--now retired ministers of the Four Square Church--were greatly moved, feeling like they had been to a revival meeting. She was then inspired to create an artistic live retelling of McPherson's whole story, called "Revival," and the idea gradually developed over the next couple of years to mature into a production concept that would incorporate live audio recordings of Aimee, historic photos and film, worship music, and live dance.
By "happenstance" (for those who believe in luck!) and just in the knick of time, Kulonis was connected with Rebecca McHenry of Freedom Dance Company in August, 2021 to bring to life the various dance portions that she had been envisioning for "Revival." After their initial phone conversation, both women were excited and could feel something bigger emerging in their collaborative conversation. Six quick weeks later, on September 23, 2021, the first humble showing of "Revival" took place at sundown on the Kulonis' Farm in Shedd, Oregon. Under the direction of Rebecca McHenry and Sharon Lane, the show quietly, but quite significantly, emerged onto the earthly scene with four new choreographic works by Freedom Dance Company. And the rest is history!
